Texas Business Profile - Executive Summary

Entergy-Texas serves the area north of Houston, west to near Austin and east to the Texas-Louisiana border...the right part. Twenty-six Texas counties comprise the region. This area, filled with history and potential, encompasses metro areas, small towns and rural communities. Cities of the region include Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Conroe and The Woodlands. The communities of Huntsville, Cleveland, Navasota, Caldwell, Liberty, Silsbee, Dayton and many others welcome you.

Marketwise, this is the place to be. Bounded by Louisiana, the Gulf of Mexico, the forests of East Texas, Houston and Austin, this is land of plentiful opportunity. Within a 500-mile radius approximately an eight-hour drive - are 17 major metropolitan areas in eight states, plus Mexico. Approximately 1.2* million people live in our area and they spend over $10.6 billion in retail sales annually. There’s a good existing market here and we’re located right for easy access to the emerging U.S. southern market.

Essential to the success of any business is the ability to bring its goods to market. The area’s highways, waterways, ports, airports and telecommunications facilities provide its businesses with ready access to markets—around the corner and around the world.

One of the strongest, positive economic factors of the area is its work force. Employers give high marks to the region’s workers, touting the level of skill and work ethic. The state offers funds for training specific to the needs of employers.

Recognizing its potential for growth, businesses are also attracted by the state’s generous package of business incentives, which includes loan guarantees, tax abatements, enterprise zones, and employee training programs. Texas is one of the few states which does not have a corporate profits tax, a personal income tax or a state property tax. The foreign-trade zones in the area are an excellent means of reducing costs and improving the ability to provide customers with just-in-time delivery.

This is a region of quiet towns, busy highways, year-round outdoor recreation and a mild, enjoyable climate. Cultural and entertainment opportunities are vast. Historic and modern. Small towns with access to big-city life. People love the quality of life in the right corner of Texas.
