Tree Trimming

What is Entergy’s Vegetation Management Plan?

To protect the reliability of the electrical system, it is necessary to keep trees separated from power lines as much as possible. To do this, we either trim or remove trees that are likely to cause power outages.

We prune trees according to nationally recognized arboricultural guidelines. The company trims power lines in cycles, usually 4-5 years apart, as it takes that long for the trees to grow back to a dangerous height after being trimmed. Every electric circuit in the system has its own cycle, determined by the types of trees present and the average height of the wires.

Safety

Power lines can carry voltage ranging from 2,000 volts to 34,500 volts. At any voltage, however, these electrical wires can be deadly. Only trained professionals should work near power lines.

Assume any wire you see is conducting electricity and is dangerous. Look up when working around your house - there may be electrical wires hidden by tree branches. Just touching a wire with a ladder or tree pruner can hurt or kill you.

Never touch a wire, whether it runs from pole to pole, from pole to your house or is lying on the ground. If in doubt, contact us. Trained personnel can identify potential reliability or safety threats and tell you what can be done.

Tree Trimming Crews

We hire professional tree-trimming contractors. They are trained in Occupational Safety & Health Administration regulations, the latest arboricultural techniques and safety procedures. We are committed to pruning your trees professionally to maintain their health.
